Energy loss occurs in wood framed construction due to an effect called THERMAL BRIDGING. Insul-Stud® eliminates thermal bridging with its integrated foam core, providing an R19 insulation value in the stud itself.
Insul-Stud® can be used as a replacement for studs, jacks, sill plates, cripples or blocking to eliminate thermal bridging in your entire wall system.
Beginning with the 2021 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC), continuous insulation is now a requirement for all new residential construction in Climate Zone 4 and higher. Insul-Stud® meets this requirement by providing continuous insulation within the wall cavity, eliminating the need for complicated and expensive alternatives like using 1" rigid foam on the entire exterior of the home.
On average, a homeowner could expect to see a 40% improvement in the performance of the building envelope vs. use of conventional framing
No, compared to alternative methods of achieving continuous insulation, it is a fraction of the cost. With Insul-Stud®, you only use it where you need it (in the building envelope), everything else stays the same. Typical cost difference is about $0.50 per sq. ft. over conventional framing. As an example, a 3,000 sq. ft. house would save approximately $1,500
